So often people ask me “so what exactly do you do?” As a business coach, I thought it would be good to share some examples of how I’ve helped clients and here are the most recent 5 wins:
#1 – Staff Hijacking. I had a client who basically had his business hijacked by his staff member. This person pretty much decided if they would turn up to work (or not), didn’t do timesheets and delegate back to her boss. By giving my client the confidence (through knowing his rights and obligations) he knows now what is acceptable practice (and not). This team member has been reined in, does her timesheets and the boss is now giving direction, rather than the other way around. Very satisfying for the client.
What a business coach will do for you?
# 2 – The Bottom Line. With my accounting background, I can easily look at financial reports and ‘read’ a lot of what is happening in the business. With this client, there was one expense that we were able to change how it was approached and the client saved $2100 every month. We’ve done heaps of other things, but one simple change has saved the business $25K per annum!
# 3 – No business coming in the door. This particular client came to me for a marketing plan (rather than coaching) as they had almost no business coming in the door and almost no future bookings. I have them 14 marketing strategies in an easy to use marketing plan and now they are 50% booked. It’s not perfect, but it’s getting there. For the first time in months this business is now trading a profit – now our focus is on growing that profit.
# 4 – Keeping on task. I’m working with one professional who knows heaps about business and what he should be doing, but admitted he loses focus, gets bored and gets distracted by “bright shiny objects” (in other words, gets great ideas and starts heaps of things, but never finishes anything). We switched to daily (yes daily) accountability and it’s made such a huge difference to his productivity and bottom line. He has 6 areas of focus, and we communicate about those 6 every day. When you focus on something, it happens.
# 5 – “Where do I begin?” This is a common ailment of many new business owners. They know they want success and money, and they are good at what they do, but they are not always so great at business and when it comes to growing their business, they really get stuck on what to do (and how to do it). This client had a dream, but it was just that – as there was no clarity or specifics around the dream. We got really clear on that in a planning session, mapped out a clear outline of the steps she needed to take and she is simply working through her list. As she does, she asks me questions and is loving knowing the direction her (and her business) are going.
Business coaching that achieves results.
Clients get stuck in many areas – operations, staff, marketing, sales, finances … well the list goes on. Being in business for yourself doesn’t mean to have to be in business by yourself. Having a business coach isn’t just about talking or being motivated; often I’m sharing my expertise, giving you fresh ideas, giving you direction and connecting you with great leaders in your industry – whether that be a website designer, Adwords expert or exceptional printer.
